Against Plastic Bag Fees

New York is first and foremost a business city. Occasionally, however, ill-conceived legislation comes along that threatens to sabotage the city's pro-business reputation. When the same legislation is also inarguably anti-consumer—especially for the working poor—red flags need to go up everywhere. Such is the case with the City Council's proposed grocery-bag tax.
