What fewer people realize is that the Dallas–Fort Worth metro area, now the nation’s fourth-largest, has become a hub of philanthropic giving—especially for “social entrepreneurs” finding new ways to help the needy. With its dynamic, growing economy and an unprecedented population surge—some 1.7 million have moved here since 2000—the area, says the founder of an organization designed to improve health care for the homeless, provides “a platform for ambition.”
