Union Bosses Had a Key Role in Detroit's Downfall

I am a Detroiter.

I was born in 1967 at Sinai Hospital. I attended Burt Elementary school, part of the Detroit Public School system. And I lived at Six Mile and Grand River until I was eight years old and my family moved to the suburbs. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of a once-vibrant city: ethnic festivals at Hart Plaza, Red Wing games at the old Olympia Stadium, shopping at Hudson’s on Woodward and visiting Santa at the Cobo Arena Christmas carnival. I grew up with great pride in my city. It was the home of the Wings, the Pistons, the Tigers and even the Lions. It was the home of Henry Ford. My city put the world on wheels. It was the Motor City.
