News reports indicate that the Obama administration was briefed by the Bush transition team in 2008 regarding problems with wait times and record-keeping at the Veterans Administration. Otherreports tell of a 2010 memo from VA under secretary William Schoenhard warning managers to cease the use of “gaming” techniques to keep reported wait times low. As we now know, 40 or more veterans died while waiting for services that the gamed VA records tell us they were not actually waiting for.
