Yesterday, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) took time from their busy post-recess schedules (and football rivalries) to welcome the recommendations of the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking (Commission or CEP) as it released a set of recommendations for strengthening how the government gathers and uses evidence in developing and evaluating public policies.
The Commission's report is the result of a year-long effort launched in 2016 by the unanimous passage of the Evidence-Based Policymaking Commission Act sponsored by Murray and Ryan. Per the Act, President Obama along with the majority and minority leadership of both houses each appointed three members of the Commission, creating a 15-member bipartisan body with expertise in “economics, statistics, program evaluation, data security, confidentiality, and database management.
