While candidates in the hotly-contested 2018 midterms are trying to get your vote, America's largest companies are trying to get into their pockets.
In the United States, money can influence the outcome of elections. Looking at political spending by the companies that make up the Dow — a heavily-watched stock index of 30 top American businesses— sheds light on corporate America's political engagement.
Thanks to OpenSecrets, we know that every company in the Dow has contributed at least $100,000, in total, to political candidates across party lines. That includes money donated to political campaigns through companies' political action committees (PACs), and donations from the companies' individual members, owners, employees, and their immediate families.
