Donald Trump thinks he can save heavy industry the hassle of following environmental regulations, which will lead to greater profits and increased hiring. But his own administration says that ignoring the perils of climate change would end up costing the U.S. economy trillions.
In fact, taking a laissez-faire approach to corporate polluters would undercut every aspect of American life, including energy production, water availability and infrastructure development. The total cost to society, according to the scientists who authored the report, will be half-trillion dollars a year.
