Black History Month Is Time For Environmental Justice

Every February, we commemorate Black History Month, a time for us to recognize the progress we've made toward social and environmental justice. However, we must also acknowledge the work we have left to do to ensure that all communities can breathe clean air and drink clean water. Because if we can't breathe, we can't live.

This month marked the 25th anniversary of President Bill Clinton's landmark Executive Order addressing environmental justice. The order recognized the “disproportionately adverse human health and environmental effects of [the government's] programs, policies and activities on minority and low-income communities.”
