Last week, New York State Senator Julia Salazar tweeted in defense of the legalization of sex work, which is a cause I support:
"To decrease the trafficking and violence that women of color and LGBTQ people are disproportionately impacted by, we must make sex work safe and legal."
The linked op-ed contained some substantive arguments in favor of sex work, but the tweet offered the core argument: the fact that a criminal statute punishes a certain racial demographic disproportionately is a good reason to change or remove the law.
