Trump's Two Triumphs

President Donald Trump is the most polarizing political figure in modern American history. The intensity with which voters either love or hate him is beyond anything we are used to. Essentially, there's very little middle ground available in the Trump era: you're likely to either fiercely support him and his agenda, or #resist him with all your might.

This binary mindset is easy to navigate for the comfortably partisan among us. Those who view the president as a mighty warrior against progressivism are willing and able to look beyond his major and minor foibles. Conversely, his adversaries in the electorate see nothing but glaring imperfections. But situated between both perspectives is a middle ground where the politically independent reside. And in this small—and shrinking—crowd, there exist some well-informed participants who object to the president's consistently bad behavior, oppose him in general, and also maintain the critical ability to praise some of his actions.
