In 2016, the #NeverTrump hashtag was birthed by frustrated Republicans who recognized their party’s first post-Obama nominee for president would be a thrice-married reality TV star with suspect conservative credentials and a penchant for theatrics, insults, sexism, and lies. Eight years of waiting for experienced leadership and a candidate who would embody conservative principles were lost to a firebrand who “owned the libs” more than anything. In short, NeverTrump began as an act of principled defiance against a party and its voters who had entirely lost their way.
Yet NeverTrumpers are still here. The NeverTrump mentality hasn’t gone away. What gives?
