A Pro-lifer’s Experience at a 'Reproductive Freedom' Day

It felt like spiritual warfare, sitting in a seminar room full of women and men seeking to sacrifice the rights of pre-born human beings in service to their own convenience. The invitation said “Use this opportunity to thank your pro-choice representatives, or to talk to your anti-choice representatives about why abortion access and reproductive freedom matters to you.” I was there to do neither.

On February 19th, NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota partnered with other pro-abortion organizations to host the Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day. As a pro-life constituent, I attended this day of lobbying and speeches, hoping to gain insight into how supporters of abortion rights could arrive at conclusions so drastically different from my own. As I listened, I couldn’t help but come to the conclusion that these organizations employ what is referred to as gaslighting —explained by Psychology Today as “a tactic in which a person or entity, in order to gain more power, makes a victim question their reality.”
