"Its [sic] a good day for a choke hold."
The founders of the Plain View Project, a website that compiles public social media posts by law enforcement, hoped that shedding light on what police are saying online could spark real reform in police departments across the country. Instead, they found themselves embroiled in a year-and-a-half-long lawsuit stemming from calling attention to a post like this that likely cost them tens of thousands of dollars and an inordinate amount of time and energy.
While the national conversation has been dominated by discussions of how repealing or amending Section 230 would impact leading tech companies, lost in that debate is how weakening or eliminating the law would cause real harm to much smaller organizations like the Plain View Project and other small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals.
