Only Private Sector Can Save Gov't Cybersecurity

Federal government cybersecurity policy continues to get stuck in Washington’s swamp mud. As other nations explore and exploit our vulnerabilities and steal critical information, federal policy  produces new ways to remain stagnant. When government policies fail, as they are prone to do, the post-mortem for the cause of failure usually comes down to two possibilities. The first cause of failure is that it was a bad policy idea that should never have been considered.  The second prime reason for failure is that subjected stakeholders could not implement the policy in a timely or effective manner. This reason can be further broken down into whether the policy simply could not be implemented or whether the policy failed for not utilizing the correct technology to encourage a successful outcome. This reason, the failure to utilize the correct technology, is the primary driver for federal cybersecurity deficiencies. The government needs to take a cybersecurity census utilizing advanced technology before it pushes forward with more regulation.
